So freaking obscure
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
It’s been for sale before, for more money thought I don’t remember how much. It’s just a Daewoo Lemans, but badged as a Passport, which was a Canada-only GM owned deal that sold Isuzus, Saabs, and these. I assume this is the only one left.

I want to say that was sold as a Pontiac in US America. An insult, of course, to the Wide Track brand.

You are correct:
Asüna GT (Canada, 1991–1993 hatchback)
Asüna SE (Canada, 1991–1993 sedan)
Daewoo 1.5i (Australia, 1994–1995)
Daewoo Fantasy (Thailand)
Daewoo Racer
Daewoo Pointer
Passport Optima (Canada, 1988–1991)
Pontiac LeMans
What a mess.
not for canada - australian in disguise

We has them as the Vauxhall Astra originally and later the Daewoo Nexia.
The Astra was okay but I think the best was the Vauxhall Astra GTE 2.0 16v 150bhp version.

I remember seeing those the first time I went to Canada (I was 16) and thinking “What the hell was that?” Then I saw a Hyundai Pony and it blew my mind. And a Pontiac Tempest. It was too much for my pre-internet brain to cope with.

I imagine that would be kind of alternate-reality feeling. Is it weird that I kind of want a Hyundai Pony?

Would you rather not have the Group A, GTE rally car?

Like the Ford Fiesta, the Vauxhall Astra has been around on this side of the pond for many years (since 1979) and we are currently on our seventh generation of the model.
There have been some good looking Astras like the fourth gen Astra (aka Opel Astra G) Bertone.
The fifth and sixth gen Astra (aka Opel Astra H and J) GTC with panoramic roof.
(car shown is the sixth gen (J).
The sixth gen Astra (aka Opel Astra J) GTC VXR.

I owned one.
Well, not that kind... I bought a 1994 Opel Kadett 1.6 convertible off a family friend who needed to sell it. I learned to drive a stick on it and I appreciated how the drop top cooled the unair-conditioned interior.
White on black with a white top. Not a bad car, all things considered

Those were badged as Pontiac LeMans in the US. My aunt had one, teenage me was offended they’d sully the LeMans name with that turd.

These were the Pontiac LeMans down here, of course. I wanted one so badly as a kid and I don’t know why.

I know those newer ones, which definitely look pretty good, but I like that Bertone one a lot, I’ve never seen that before

My girlfriend in HS had a Pontiac LeMans. It was a piece of crap- but her parents gave it to her as a gift- they were all weird.
Every 3 months the headlight switch would melt out, I’d go in and buy the part from the GM dealer and they would laugh, ‘yep, they’ll do that.’ Apparently in all the confusion of getting the right name on the back they forgot to relay the headlights so they just ran 12v straight through the .23 cent switch in the dash..

The Bertone was simply a styled Astra. Bertone had a contract with GM and did and did several cars, prior to the Astra Vauxhalls only other coupe was the Vauxhall Calibra again by Bertone. They also did the Astra Cabriolet which was the predecessor to the Cascada today.

I’ll throw in the other cabriolet they did around the time, the twin-top Vauxhall/Opel/Holden/Chevrolet* Tigra available in 1.4 and 1.6 manual petrol.
*Brazil and Mexico.

What's funny is the Astras weren't bad cars. But, something got lost in translation when Daewoo used the design and made rebadged Astras on their own. These things just flat fell apart. There are probably less than 100 left in the whole U.S.
